Ras Al Khaimah reaching new heights: Air Taxis to take off in 2027!!

Ras Al Khaimah, the nature blessed Emirate of UAE is all set to reach greater heights with the announcement of Air Taxis to take off in 2027. A MOU is signed between Ras Al Khaimah Transport Authority (RAKTA) and Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority (RAKTDA) with Skyports Infrastructure (Skyports), the company spearheading the development of vertiport infrastructure for electric air taxi services.

Under the agreement RAKTA, RAKTDA and Skyports will collaboratively design, develop, and operate Ras Al Khaimah’s first electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) air taxi ecosystem, with commercial operations set to commence by 2027.

This unique project aims to provide fast and convenient zero-emission transport to Ras Al Khaimah’s most popular areas and attractions-

  • Jebel Jais
  • Al Hamra
  • Al Marjan Island

Tourists and residents visiting these sites will witness substantial travel time savings (approx. 70%) from this service. For inference, the travel time taken by road from Al Marjan Island to Jebel Jais is approximately 70 minutes, which then will cut down to just 20 minutes via air transport.

So, what is so exciting about this project?

  • In next two years an electric-powered transit system will be built that will redefine the way tourists and residents experience Ras Al Khaimah.
  • This project shall not only enhance access to RAK’s attractions but shall also help to reduce carbon footprint. It shall enable RAK to drive closer to emerge as a regional leader in sustainable tourism by 2025.
  • By providing zero-emission transportation systems, the Emirate is set to achieve its objective of sustainable and responsive driving.
  • The vertiport network will transform transportation in Ras Al Khaimah with an expected footfall of 3.5 M visitors by 2030, leading to a significant boost in Infrastructure, Hotel, Entertainment and Tourism industry investments from across the globe.
  • Furthermore, it will unlock future opportunities to integrate with air taxi networks across the UAE.

Additionally, this initiative directly addresses the pressing need for innovative solutions to cut carbon emissions in ground transportation, a sector that accounts for 40 per cent of greenhouse gas emissions in the travel and tourism industry, as highlighted by the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC).

With the introduction of electric air mobility not only the tourists are innovatively connected to the RAK attractions but a sustainable forward path is forged for the Emirate. The project plan perfectly aligns RAK’s commitment to enhance accessibility while minimizing the environmental impact. The booming attractions of Al Marjan Island, the Wynn Casino will now witness a seamless and a quicker access to the Jebel Jais Sports & Adventures and the serene city vibe of Al Hamra in Ras Al Khaimah.

Experience the magical and sustainable transformation in the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah coming your way in a couple of years from now!
